Burrow, Who Had Motor Neurone Disease, Was 41

A New BBC Two Film Gives a Powerful Insight into His Life

Former Leeds Rhinos and Great Britain rugby league star Rob Burrow has died at the age of 41.

Burrow had been living with motor neurone disease (MND) since 2019. He was diagnosed with the condition, which affects the brain and spinal cord, in December 2019.

Burrow, who won eight Super League titles and two Challenge Cups with Leeds, was widely praised for his fundraising and awareness campaigns after being diagnosed with MND.

A new BBC Two film, Rob Burrow: Living With MND, gives a powerful insight into the life of the former rugby league international.

The film, which was shown at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday, follows Burrow as he comes to terms with his diagnosis and the impact it has on his life and family.

Burrow, who was awarded the CBE in the 2021 New Year Honours for his services to rugby league and MND awareness, died on Thursday.
